Print best practices — make every label scan, first time.

A barcode that does not scan is worse than no barcode at all. These are the rules we enforce inside Label Studio so your prints just work.

DPI matters more than size

203 DPI is the floor for thermal printers; 300 DPI is the safe default; 600 DPI is for tiny DataMatrix on parts. Label Studio defaults a sensible DPI per symbology — you only need to override for unusual stock.

Respect the quiet zone

Barcodes need empty space around them. SmartTagPro reserves the correct quiet zone automatically — do not crop it out when designing.

Stock & contrast

Matte white synthetic is the gold standard for durable asset labels. Avoid glossy stock under direct sun — reflection kills scan rates. Always print black-on-white; never invert.

Auto-fit A4 for batch jobs

Label Studio's A4 auto-fit calculates exactly how many labels of your chosen size will fit on a portrait A4 sheet, then paginates the whole batch for you.
